PULP SUMMER SLAM Once Again Ranks as the Only Asian Metal Festival in Worldwide Top 250 List

Once again, PULP SUMMER SLAM has gained international recognition by ranking in worldwide list Festival 250.

Festival 250 is an annual project from Festival Insights, an online B2B publication focused on the international festival industry. As the “Knowledge Hub of the Festival Industry,” Festival Insights (created by Festival Awards LTD—the founders of the prestigious UK, European, and Iberian Festival Awards) now presents the sophomore edition of Festival 250 which lists down the top 250 of the world’s countless music festivals. The list is said to rank the most exceptional music festivals all over the globe in terms of size and commercial success.

For the second time, the SLAM has made the list, once again being the only Philippine music festival ranked and recognized, as well as the only METAL festival in all of Asia that landed on the list for the year 2017. It debuted on the list in 2016—the first time the list was published by Festival Insights—at #243. In the 2017 edition, the Slam ranked higher on the list at #229.

“Pulp Summer Slam is South East Asia’s biggest and longest-running metal festival, hosting its 17th edition in 2017. With a lineup neatly divided between national and international talent, it brings together the best of the Philippines’ metal scene and the best of everywhere else’s,” says Festival Insights about the Slam. Since its inception in 2001, the Slam has built a formidable metal legacy in the Philippines as the country’s biggest annual metal event. Year in and year out, thousands upon thousands of metalheads from different parts of the Philippines would converge at the Slam, even drawing attendees from other parts Asia. Through the years, it has become a Filipino metal tradition like no other.

In 2017, the Slam’s 17th installment—PULP SUMMER SLAM XVII: Redemption—was headlined by thrash metal titans Megadeth. The event also featured performances from international metal acts Dragonforce, Crossfaith, Whitechapel, I See Stars, and Gods of Eden. Local frontrunners Slapshock, Greyhoundz, Wilabaliw, Razorback, Kjwan, and Red Horse Beer 2016 Pambansang Muziklaban winners Shotgun Combo also completed the diverse lineup of the festival. This metal mayhem was powered by PULP Live World (described by Festival Insights as “the de facto authority for alternative rock and metal in the Philippines” and “one of the region’s most influential promoters”) and Red Horse Beer.

This year, Southeast Asia’s longest-running metal festival returns for its 18th year. PULP SUMMER SLAM 18: Of Good and Evil carries on this unparalleled metal tradition on May 5th, 2018 with the Slam’s BIGGEST international lineup yet—headlining the event are metal gods Behemoth, At The Gates, and Cradle of Filth; This globally diverse list is completed by Death Angel, Crown The Empire, Jinjer, Attila, Crystal Lake, Nervecell, and Secrets
