SANDWICH
Contra Tiempo, Album Launch
March 04, 2011 / Eastwood City Central Plaza
Words by: Jason Caballa
Fans of longtime Pinoy rock innovators of cool SANDWICH showed up in droves for the much-awaited (and belated) official launch of Contra Tiempo, the quintet’s third release of the current label PolyEast Records (formerly EMI Philippines) and sixth full-length record overall, since forming in 1998. As always, singer/guitarist Raimund Marasigan, guitarist Diego Castillo and Mong Alcaraz, bassist Myrene Academia, and drummer Mike Dizon rocked Eastwood Central Plaza and gave their all, performing pretty much every track from the band’s first all-Filipino language album, including now-fan favorites “Takbo,” “Sulputin,” “Stranded,” and the singles “Putik,” “Lakad,” and “Pera.” Showing no signs of letting up, they returned to the stage after a brief breather to perform an encore of old favorites like “2 Trick Pony,” “Procrastinator,” “Butterfly Carnival,” “Sugod,” and more, to the sheer delight of the crowd.
